DBA Responsibilities A database administrator has some very well defined responsibilities that must be
performs DBA very religiously. A brief description of these jobs is given below: o Schema definition
o Providing access to data o Routine maintenance
• Advances Disk space monitoring
• Monitoring running tasks.

O Scheme design The DBA in some organizations is responsible for designing the database schema which
means that the DBA is the person who creates all the metadata information for the server the organization on which the database is based. However, on some very large scale the organization does this work a database designer who is hired for the purpose of database design and once the database system is installed and functioning is passed to DBA for further operation.

O Granting access to users: The DBA is also responsible for granting access rights to database users. Together with the granting and withdrawal (return) of rights is continuously monitored and ensured by the DBA
legal use of these rights. o Disk space monitoring: When a new database is created, it takes up limited space, but due to daily activity the database is getting more data and growing very fast. The DBA must monitor
disk space usage and statistics to ensure that there is no data overflow at any stage.

o Monitor running tasks: To ensure the safe and proper functioning of the DBA database system 24/7
