School of Medicine of Wuhan University

Wuhan University, located in Wuhan city, Hubei province, central China, has been devoted to fostering all-round talents and bringing up high-level professional talents. It is aiming to become a world-class comprehensive research university by the middle of the twenty-first century. To realize this goal, the school has launched an educational reform program. The reform plan focuses on personnel training pattern, study styles and educational systems. In addition, it promotes talent-fostering concepts, such as self-improvement, seeking truth, perseverance, and making innovations.

In addition to fostering talents, the university also aims to enhance scientific research, strengthen the disciplinary style of the university, and promote international academic circles. Through the reform process, Wuhan University has been able to bring up outstanding achievements in various fields. However, the University still needs to raise its teaching, research and development to international advanced levels.

Since its founding, Wuhan University has been the first batch of national universities in modern China. It has developed a fine school spirit and a good study style, which encourages students to stand out.

Wuhan University School of Medicine has 30 laboratories and 3 A-Level Grade III affiliated hospitals. Its annual in-patients’ number is about 50,000. This number mainly consists of patients with cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, and ophthalmic diseases. Moreover, it has an abundance of clinical cases that greatly facilitates its clinical practice. For example, it is the center of the State Key Laboratory of Virology.

Wuhan University’s School of Medicine has a number of foreign partners. Since 2008, it has entered into cooperation with a number of overseas universities, including the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. After the collaboration, the performance of the students in the School of Medicine increased greatly.

Wuhan University School of Medicine also has a strong research team. There are many conspicuous specialists on medical science in the school. They have been praised by the national partners and the public. Another important feature of the school is its rich experience in clinical practices. Besides, it has developed special features and established a disciplinary style, which makes it a unique university.

With the help of Wuhan University, the University of Chicago has launched a medical education reform initiative. It has been a good example for medical education reform in China. During the five years that the project has been carried out, the University of Chicago has cooperated with the school to create a world-class curriculum. The reform has led to improved student performances.

As a result of the reform, the School of Medicine of Wuhan University has changed the concept of teaching and the structure of its curriculum.
